David Beckwith

Overview

David Beckwith is a trial and appellate lawyer specializing in intellectual property litigation, with an emphasis on patent and trade secret disputes. He has more than 30 years of courtroom experience representing a diverse range of domestic and multinational industries, including medical devices, smartphones, internet security, and biotechnology. He has successfully represented clients in courtrooms across the country at both State and Federal levels, and also in the International Trade Commission. David's appellate experience includes the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Federal Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

David's complex litigation experience includes successful representations in matters involving ERISA, RICO, trade secrets and unfair competition. Successes include multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements for patent-owners, and rulings of non-infringement when representing defendants accused of patent infringement. Pro bono representations include representing Surfrider in beach access disputes, and a high profile dispute with the State of California relating to the systematic denial of foster care benefits.

David is a credentialed mediator with the National Conflict Resolution Center, and completed the Pepperdine program on mediating the litigated case. With over three decades of experience in biotechnology and high tech disputes, Davidís mediation practice focuses on resolution of patent infringement and complex litigation concerning scientific and engineering-related issues.

David has earned an "AV Preeminent" peer-review rating, reflecting his achievement of professional excellence and ethical standards. He has practiced at two patent specialty firms, and was a partner at McDermott, Will & Emery for over a decade.

In his free time David enjoys time with his family skiing, backpacking and backcountry fishing. He is also a licensed amateur extra-class radio operator.
